Sucsess of music videos

The use of a music video is to help sell the song, it helps the audience to understand the concept of the lyrics and what the song is about. The audience is more likely to remember a song after watching the music video, they are able to visually remember it and therefore are likely to watch it over and over again on YouTube or buy the song on ITunes or MP3. A successful music video is one that creates high sales for the artist. A music video also makes the song more interesting and you are able to watch the song and listen to it at the same time. When an artist's music is released they will be paid for every time their song is played on the radio, Spotify, iTunes or any other device, this is called a royalty. The money this artist is paid comes from licenses that company's have to pay in order to have music playing in their store.

but what does success mean?

the amount of views?
the money made?
the awards won?

but some would say that if they get the message across then the video is a success. Success can mean whatever the creator of the video wants to achieve and if they achieve it then it has been a success in their own opinion.

The music video industry is becoming bigger and bigger each day and in some cases the video is more of a success than the song. an example is 'This too shall pass' the video features a giant contraption that ultimately splatter the 4 band members with paint. The video has over 51 million views. The band even have said the song would never done as well as it had without the internet, youtube and the music video. This would definitely be classed a success un my opinion.

Album cover ancillary task research

I decided to do some research into what makes the best album digital packs.

here are 7 of the key points I picked up on.

1. Don’t print lyrics unless you have sufficient space

Are you thinking of cramming the lyrics to 12 songs onto a four-panel digipack? Where are you going to put the album credits, copyright info, and crowdfunding thank-yous? Who’s going to be able to read that tiny font anyway? Lyrics in the album packaging are great – if you can read them. So if a six-page booklet insert or a giant foldout for your LP edition aren't realities, use the internet as a way to augment your album art and avoid clutter. Post your lyrics on your website in a dedicated section that shares design elements with your album. Then, print the URL to your website's lyrics section on your album packaging.

2. Envision your album cover as a thumbnail

The majority of people who encounter your album will do so online. They’ll see a smaller version on  digital music platforms like iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon, or on review sites and blogs. Often it will appear as small as a thumbnail. Before you commit to an album cover design, shrink it way down. Does it still capture your attention? If so, you’ve got a winner. If not, try a different approach for your album cover.

3. You might not need your artist name or album title on the cover

Conversely, because most people will see the album online (where retail stores, blogs, and review sites will display your artist name and album title next to the cover), it's less important that your band name and album title appear in bold on the cover art – though that approach worked wonders for The Black Keys. In fact, you might not need them there at all, especially if your CD or vinyl package comes with a sticker on the shrink-wrap that does have your artist and album name. You can let the internet (and that sticker on the packaging) do the magic of conveying the facts, and then use that extra visual space for some great design.

4. Album covers with faces get more attention

We don’t really have any hard data to back up this claim (though it'd be interesting to look into), but for many of us at CD Baby who see hundreds of new album submissions every day, it seems like album covers that feature actual human faces draw more attention to themselves than ones that have... something else. Maybe it's just that feeling of personal connection which comes from seeing someone's eyes, or that you can get an instantaneous sense of the artist's musical style and aesthetic based on his or her fashion, posture, the setting of the photo, etc. But something about those covers (when done well) seem more immediate and engaging.

5. If you’re not going to feature a human face, make sure your design is striking and original

Your album design shouldn't just look cool. It should convey something about your musical style and even your personal beliefs. For a great example of a record that breaks the rules and sends a message with its album art, check out Aphex Twin’s Syro, where the cover shows an itemized list of every expense that went into creating and marketing the record (instrument costs, promotional meet-and-greets, advertising, etc.).

6. Minimalism is in

DJs are still heavily reliant on CDs, and they need to be able to pull your disc off the shelves quickly. It's for this very reason that many stations don’t even accept albums sent to them in thin sleeve packaging.
This is probably related to number three and number four above, but the starker the image, the more it seems to capture our attention. Maybe the modern sensibility is, "Things'll get shrunk, so things should stay simple." After all, it'd be really difficult to make out all the faces on the cover of Sgt. Pepper’s when reduced to a thumbnail. A NYT article from a few years back talks about this album art phenomenon in more detail.

7. Print your artist and album name clearly on the spine

Imagine your CD is sitting on the shelves of a radio station library. Can you find the disc among all those other albums? Many

From these 7 points I've decided that I will try to create a minimalist album cover so i'm thinking black an white for that. I want to use a face as apparently that grabs more attention so i plan o use Michaels face (my actor) on the cover. I also need to take into consideration about what to include on it but what i do know for sure is that i will put on a website address and other important copyright information. Finally, I want to make sure my album cover is original and striking. I will try and achieve this on photoshop as i know some cool original effects i could use.

Here are some example of album covers that i think are particularly good examples.

Key history of music videos

In 1926, "Talkies" (sound films) were introduced, which was a massive breakthrough in the music and film industry. This followed with many short musical films. Then in the 1940s, soundies were introduced, these were 3 minute short musical films. Another big move forward for music and films. After this, more and more short films came out and provided a different approach to watching films.

A man called Tony Bennett claims to have created "...the first music video" when he was filmed walking along the Serpentine in Hyde Park, London in 1956, with the resulting clip being set to his recording of the song "". The clip was sent to UK and US television stations and aired on shows including Dick Clark's Americas Bandstand.
The oldest example of a promotional music video with similarities to more abstract, modern videos seems to be "Dáme si do bytu" ("Let's get to the apartment") created in 1958 and directed by Ladislav Rychman.

Tony Bennett

In 1965, the Beatles began making promotional clips for distribution and broadcast in other countries so they could promote their record releases without having to make in-person appearances. Their first batch of promo videos recorded in late 1965 and they were fairly straight forward mimed-in-studio performance pieces and meant to blend in fairly seamlessly with television shows like Top of the Pops and Hullabaloo. By the time The Beatles stopped touring in late 1966, their promotional films, like their recordings, had become highly sophisticated. In early 1967 they took the promotional film format to a new level. They used techniques borrowed from underground and avant garde film, including reversed film and slow motion, dramatic lighting, unusual camera angles and colour filtering added in post-production.

The Beatles appearing on top of the pops
Music television then came into the mix in the mid 1970s. The Australian TV shows countdown and sounds, both of which premiered in 1974, were significant in developing the music video genre in Australia and other countries, and in establishing the importance of music video clips as a means of promoting both emerging acts and new releases by established acts. Michael Jackson's thriller was released in 1983, it was 14 minutes long and ended up being the most successful, iconic and inspirational music video ever. In 2005, YouTube was launched. This then has allowed the viewing and uploading of music videos much more efficient and easy to use.

Micahel Jackson - Thriller
PSY- Gangnam style

In 2012, Gangnam style was released on YouTube and that ended up being the most viewed music video so far with over 2 billion views. Linking to music videos is lyric videos, so after the after artist reveals their music video, they then release a lyric video that presents the lyrics of their video on the screen at the time of when the music is being played so that they can learn the lyrics to the song.

Story board - Polarize Rough draft

This is the draft of my storyboard for 'Polarize' - the song I have chosen to make a music video on.

I went for a 6 panel approach and didn't go into much detail with the sketches as i knew i would create a better drawing closer to the filming dates.

they all feature a brief description of what is being shown in each box.

Heres the storyboard:

Narrative

What is a narrative?- A narrative or story is any report of connected events, actual or imaginary, presented in a sequence of written or spoken words, or still or moving images effectively it is the art of storytelling.

How does narrative work in relation to a music video?
A pure narrative video will feature no lip synched singing.
The narrative will also relate to the song in some way.
The lyrics are often related within the story.

The most common form of music video is Performance / Narrative. This is a video that shows a performance by the band or artist but also has a narrative within it.

  • Often the video narrative will mimic a film genre.
  • The band will often appear as part of the narrative or as an observer.
  • The video will often tell a meaningful story which often features a deeper meaning.

Advantages
Narrative videos can often emphasise an artists insistence that they are more interested with their music than portraying themselves on film.
The simple plot is often easy for the audience to follow and keeps them engaged.

Disadvantages
Often narrative based music videos are very costly to produce for the record label.

Target Audience

The song that I am using is 'polarize' and that is classed as 'alternative hip-hop'

I did some research into what the most common gender, age and ethnicity is for this genre.

Here is what i discovered:

I learnt that the 'IDEAL' audience member is male aged 16-25 and is of white ethnicity.

I also learnt that the 'LEAST IDEAL' audience member is female, aged 10-15 or 41-50 and of Chinese ethnicity.

I also discovered that surprisingly the second most common age group is 60+. This really surprised me as alternative hip-hop is not what i expect 60+ year olds to be listening to. The only conclusion i can think of is that the alternative hip-hop genre is very flexible and you can class many songs as it. OR because there is no cap on the 60+ age group so it has the widest selection of people in the category.

so what should I consider when making my music video when thinking of target audiences?

Well, firstly i should take in consideration the age groups. I want to focus on the youth of the public and target the 16-25 yr old age group as it holds the vast majority of viewers and listeners. I will try and achieve this by using a youthful actor in my music video and make him do activities that appeal to younger people.

Secondly, I need to consider the gender that i'm targeting the predominate consumer is male so i want to focus on them. I will try and achieve this by using a 2 male actors in my video.

Finally, I should take into consideration ethnicity. The main ethnicity for alternative hip-hop is white so i should focus on them right? Wrong. Nowadays with more diverse and flexible cultures all integrating picking out one ethnicity would be stupid. I want my video to appeal to all ethnicity by making it not target anyone in particular and its open to all cultures.

Polarize final shot list

This shot list uses terms like 'singer Michael' and 'hand gesture' in them and I realise that you wont know what they mean. But I do. And that's all that matters at the end of the day, I understand what these 'slang' words mean and as long as this shot list sets out the guideline for my filming and I understand it then to me that's good enough.

The reason I have made my shot list like this is so I'm not restricted to shot by shot filming and it gives me some flexibility on the shoot. This is good because if any external factor affect the shoot then I am prepared. I also feel like I create better work by using this sort of shot list.

Here's the shot list :

Polarize Shot list with timings

0:00 Titles fade from black and a splitting transition to reveal Michael walking
0:07 close ups on Michaels face and his footsteps
0:14 moving car shots behind and side. Cut to singer Michael doing hand gesture
0:21 walking up to house and going into room (camera follows from behind)
0:28 Puts hoodie on and hat
0:39 walks outside follow shot to door, singing to himself walking cuts to singing elsewhere
0:51 singing with lots of energy and emotion cutting to drum hits and singing alone in different places

1:05 walks outside and goes into shop and gets the drink and walks back out and then close up on face walking and behind to side slightly (try to get lens flare)

Film Dates

I'm currently planning to start filming on the 6th of January

Music Video Footage plan

I'm planning to divide up my footage by having life performance and a narrative story mixed together. I plan on achieving this by creating the story as I would in any other music video but near the end of the song I will make a small live performance scene. This will occur when Michael uses his hands to form a rectangle and looks through them.(I will edit this in after effects using masks) while looking through them he sees a different world and notices a drum kit and a mic stand. He then starts to perform with a drummer after he has 'Polarized' and can see things in a different way. The video finishes with a finale where they are performing and it gives the feel good factor and the viewer can see he's accomplished something and can maybe sort out his life from now on. He finally walks away and the screen fades to black at the end of the song.

I also plan on having small cuts to Michael singing every now and then to remind the viewer that he is the one singing the song and all the words relate to what he is doing in the video. One idea that I have had is to give him a single floor tom from a drum kit and make him hit it 3 times like it does in the song. This is because he can hit it really hard and display all his emotions by taking out his anger on the drum. This also will count as live performance a he will only hit the drum in time to the song when it has the loud 3 hits of the drum.

Audience research

Here is a video of some answers to some questions I asked about music video and film consumption. I also decided to make a questionnaire and I have posted some images of them below. In the video I talk about what these results mean and what I can gather from this information.

initial location ideas

The initial locations have been chosen for my music video. I have decided on 5 separate locations and they are all located in Hethersett. I chose Hethersett as I know the area very well and to make the filming easier as it reduces the amount of travelling needed.

Corner Shop

I want to use a corner shop in Hethersett called 'Premier' to film in. The reason I want to use this location is because I knew the shop owner and he has given me permission to film inside. It also has a wide range of  products inside and they all had vibrant colours so it went well with the music video as it is a shot that is relating to his childhood.

Tennis court

I also want to film a part on a tennis court in Hethersett as a tennis court relates to a game played by 2 people and him being alone is showing that he has no friends and he goes there in the hope of finding someone else or to recall his childhood when he did play there with his friends.

Hethersett skate park

I hope to use the skate park in Hethersett as it represents his childhood and there is a vantage point that I can use to get a good low angle shot when the happy part of the song comes in.

Village Hall field

I would like the Hethersett village hall field for two main reasons. Firstly, because it is close to the tennis court and the skate park so this saves time and travelling. Secondly, because it is a wide open space and it suits what I wanted because there is a wall nearby that I can use when I want the character to lean against it.

House

I will use my own house purely as it was easy to use. The location isn't that important for this shot so my own house works well enough.

Consumption Of Music Videos

Currently the biggest way of consuming music video is on YouTube and the highest viewed video of all time is Gangnam Style with over 2,443,785,096 views. A recent development in YouTube is the new 360 Video. This allows the viewer to look all the way arounf the screen in a 360 view to fully amerce the viewer in the video and example of this is the song 'waiting for love by avicii.

Over time the consumption of music videos has changed in quality, and availability to the viewer. Here's a brief overview of the development of music videos:

1981 - MTV

By the early 1990s, MTV was playing a combination of pop-friendly hard rock acts, chart-topping
metal and rock acts such as Metallica. During this decade, MTV saw the rise in popularity and strength of the music video industry. It provided one of the only outlets for music videos and, with it's rapidly increasing popularity, allowed the rise of the music video directors. Even several noted film directors got their start creating music videos.

2001 - iTunes

When iTunes was launched in 2001 it began another revolution of music consumption because people could now access any music they wanted and could preview the music video for around 12 seconds. This was thought to be a flop by the music industry because people had to pay to listen to music or have the albums. However it wasn't and people understood that the sales benefitted the artists. By February 6, 2013, the store had sold 25 billion songs worldwide.

2004 - Vimeo

A U.S.-based video-sharing website on which users can upload, share and view videos. This is now being used by people all over the world and is an additional way to watch music videos through high quality resolution in 720p and 1080P/1080i. As of December 2011, Vimeo attracts 65 million unique visitors per month and more than 8 million registered users. As of February 2013, Vimeo accounted for 0.11% of all Internet bandwidth, following fellow video sharing sites like YouTube and Facebook.

2006 - Youtube

For five years, YouTube and music industry companies like MTV struggled to understand how their content was being displayed for free on YouTube, and attempted to implement measures to ban the content. The huge rise in views for music videos on video sharing site Youtube meant that they were able to make huge amounts of money through advertising. his has resulted in the total number of displayed YouTube Ads going up 50% in the last year and their revenues soaring to $450 million.

Casting

Michael Gukas
James Huxtable

After last years piece of course work I've decided to approach casting in a different way. Last year I used two of my friends Jack and Huzefa who were very good at acting and did what I said... eventually. This has made me want to get a more professional actor this year and one who wont mess about when I ask them to film a scene.

I decided to go to the drama studio to look for a male actor who would fit my role. I managed to narrow it down to 2 candidates. Michael Gukas (Left) and James Huxtable (right). They both have studied drama at A level and I can tell that they both have a great passion for the subject. After seeing some of their previous work and a quick audition I still couldn't pick them apart a they were equally as good at acting.

Luckily the decision practically made its self as it turns out 3 other groups have chosen James in their media work so his schedule is very busy at the moment. So naturally, I decided to go with Michael to feature in my music video.

Practise of making an album cover.

I've been going through some ideas on what I could do for my album cover and here is one I came up with...

I particularly like the black faded gradient and I want to use this in my actual cover. I know the image is not related to my video in any way at all but I've been using it for practise of sizing and styles.

Genre In Film - Romance

One of the main generic conventions of a romance short film is the non-diegetic sound. The sound adds intimacy to the film and allows the audience to feel more involved in the film makes them realise the love between the people even more emphatically. There is also often diegetic sound on in the film, where the actors can actually hear the music. This adds to the intensity of the scenes. Most romantic films would start off with two people, who may or may not have children of their own yet, and they are usually together but sometimes are not. They will like each other and then during the film they will have a disagreement and spend sometime apart and there will be contrasts of each other's life. The two people will then meet each other, usually by accident, and then eventually they will get back together again.

If I was to do a short film then I probably would choose the genre, romance. The reason that I think it would be simple to do is because the storyline wouldn't be that hard to think of, all that I would need is a boy and a girl and then to begin with I would have their contrasts in life and then get them to meet somehow. After this I would have to think of a disagreement that they could have. Then towards the end of the film I would have them meet again and they would fall in love.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zY03YnZk4po

Above is a short film that I have watched about a boy and girl who meet in a pub, it is the boy's birthday and he goes to the pub with his dad for his first legal drink. In the pub he sees a girl who he likes and she looks back at him in a way that you can tell that she likes him. His brother gives him advice, he goes over and asks her for a drink and they bond, play pool and laugh together and then at the end of the film he gets her number. However, just after this happens, it skips forward to a wedding day and it is actually the girl and the main character's brother who have got married.

Polarize Story Idea And Character profile

I'm going to be telling the story of a teenage a boy in my music video to the music of Twenty One Pilots and their song 'Polarize'

Character profile

The idea of this story is that the boy currently is going through allot of problems in his life and he is coming out with all his inside emotions explaining how he has been a bad brother and son and is in denial. He's begging for help to 'Polarize' which means to see things in a different was so he can make up the wrong he has done in the past. In the pre-chorus, the song lists a few specific ways he’d like to improve his life: “I wanted to be a better brother, better son / Wanted to be a better adversary to the evil I have done.” He wishes he could have been better for his family and would have liked to have had the good in his life outweigh the evil. He wants desperately to be a good person.

Story Idea

The way in that I am going to show this in my video is by starting with him out alone with his thoughts and singing the song. He will then go home and get changed into clothes that make him feel more comfortable, for example a hat to try and hide himself from the world. He then leaves on his bike and starts to go to a place where he can be alone with his thoughts.

He then leaves his bike and travels the rest of the trip by foot, walking through the city alone and singing the song to himself with cutaways of him singing to the camera in various different locations e.g. under a bridge or in front of a wall with spray paint etc. just as long as it looks rebellious and not plain. He buys a cheap drink from a store and sits alone while drinking it. This is symbolising he doesn't have allot of money and he is very normal as allot of teens can relate to doing this when they were younger.

finally he  gets to the place he wanted to be and he appears to still be looking for something. He uses his hands to form a rectangle and looks through them.(I will edit this in after effects using masks) while looking through them he sees a different world and notices a drum kit and a mic stand.

Research into Existing characters in Music videos

Here are 3 Music Videos that all feature distinct character in each of them. The first is the song 'Stressed Out' by twenty-one pilots features 3 brothers and the main character is the singer. The second Is the song 'Oceans' By Seafret and the main character is a small girl. Finally the Third video is 'From Eden' By Hozier and the main character is Hozier himself

How important are characters in music videos?

I feel characters in a music video are extremely important. They help the viewer interoperate what the true meaning of the song is through their actions and feelings. This can be more effective in some videos more than others because the song may have stronger emotions and feelings tied into it. For example, The video 'Oceans' By Seafret has a small girl that is clearly troubled and is getting bullied by some older kids. This makes us feel sorry for her and when she uses her new powers we get the feel good factor and this goes hand in hand with the song as its when the chorus starts and it emphasises the songs effect.

Character Profiles

Song - 'Stressed Out' by Twenty One Pilots
Character - Tyler Joseph

Tyler Joseph is the actual lead singer in this video and he plays himself in the video. He is a man who is trying to re-live his childhood and goes round his friends house who Is also in the band. The fact that they are showing the emotions of pain and regret on their face emphasises the song and also because he is the actual person that sings the song makes it even more believable.

Song - 'Oceans' by Seafret
Character - Child Girl played by Maisie Williams

Maisie Williams is a well known actor. She is most recognisable from Game Of thrones and other films. The effect this has on the video is that any fans of hers will be interested in the video itself. It also makes people see the character in a different way as they see the girl as Maisie Williams not just some girl in a music video.

The actual character is shown to have had a bad day and is a bit of an outcast. We then see her take out a costume that's presumably from her childhood and she try's it on and leaves the house. She then lives her normal lonely life and buys a drink and sits on her own clearly fed up with life. Later on she meets a group of people who laughs at her and punches her. She then uses superpowers to get back at them but she didn't realise she could do this. She then runs in fear and goes home to her mom who has now came home from work and symbolises that everything is better now.

Song - 'From Eden'
Character - Hozier by Hozier

This video is about a man and wife who have a child and there lifestyle is loving on the road and committing robberies for money. The interesting part about this video is that the parents are very professional in the robberies but they take there child along with them and when they aren't committing crime they seem just like an ordinary family.

The character Hozier plays shows a very expressionless face throughout the video and this suggests he knows what he's doing is wrong but he has to do it to support his family. It also suggests that there is allot on his mind.

A different character is this video is the little boy he seems really happy and joyfull all the time and the mum seems to be the one his is mainly caring for him. This is why the video is so interesting as it looks like such an innocent child witnessing people being held at gunpoint for money and he has no idea what is going on.

Conclusion

In conclusion I feel that characters are such an important part in a music video as it lets the viewer get a more in depth view on what may have been going on in this persons life before the actual video. Also characters can be used to help portray the story and the message of the song because they allow the viewer to visually see emotions and expressions that are in the song but they are hard to display.

Genre in short film - Comedy

Is Comedy Suited for short Films?

I think that Comedy is suited for short films because the sense of Comedy can easily be created in a short period of time ranging from 2-10 minutes. This is because comedy can be delivered as a short and witty joke or it can all lead up to one punch line. Or in some cases it can be a whole load of funny actions and clips throughout the entirety if the film. I also think that comedy suits the short film genre well as the creator can achieve what they want in a short period of time and the joke/pun wont be overused as it hasn't got long enough for this to happen. So if its an effect like exploding heads or if its a catchphrase used over and over again then it wont be tiresome for the viewer.

On the other hand comedy may not be suited to short films though because in some cases comedy films prefer to have more of a storyline to it instead of pure jokes and puns. For example the film 'The Hangover' uses a storyline to aid it comedy by putting them in a location and story that provides them multiple opportunities for comedy. Also Comedy may not suit a short film because sometimes the comedy can seem forced and not funny at all. When someone has to write a comedy short they need to include the funny parts in a way that flows with the story if not viewers will not find it very amusing if it sticks out like a sore thumb. And this is a very challenging tasks for short film creators so its not always the best end result.

Analysis Of A Short Comedy Film (Time travel lover)

Matt and Hannah have been seeing each other for about 2 weeks and tonight is the night that they return to her apartment in order to have sex. A world of possibilities lie in front of their young relationship, but none of that is in their minds as they mutually undress one another – or at least it wasn't on their minds until Matt returned from 2 weeks in the future to warn his horny self of the road ahead.

There is a certain freshness to this short film. It is there at the start with the visually cool apartment, the good clean shots and look of the film and it continues with the plot development. The writing takes all stages of a relationship, the good and the bad, and compresses them into a short scene – keeping it light to be funny but still undeniably pretty smart. The script has plenty of chuckles and energy to it but it is the delivery that makes it work. Of course it helps that you have the writer in the lead role, so he knows the good material that he wrote, but this shouldn't take away from the performances.

His multiple roles gives him plenty to do but he does well to stay in character for all of them, making small changes that are comic and nicely done. In the middle of all of ths is the woman, who has a harder role with a constantly shifting reaction-mode (often I guess, reacting to air or stand-ins), but she is also funny with her facial reactions and delivery. The pacing of the film in the studio and in the editing is appropriate and effective, making it work well for what it does. It is a really enjoyable little scene, with a lot of energy but also control as it has good pace and timing throughout.

Practise Of A Music Video!

This is a practise of shooting a music video and here are the results. Some shots are just a black screen as the footage didn't match up as well as I thought it would. The song is While Where young and earlier on in the blog I made a post with the shots involved. Enjoy!

What does the song Polarize Mean?

Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun, Twenty One Pilots’ two members, begin “Polarize” with the chorus. Tyler sings, “Help me polarize, help me polarize.” Polarization is a process that causes sunglasses to only accept lightwaves that are coming straight towards the glasses, reducing glare from other reflective surfaces. Wearers of polarized sunglasses are able to see exactly what they are looking at more clearly than usual.

Of course, polarization is also the process by which things are “polarized,” or separated into two distinct groups. (Think of the north and south poles or the two ends of a magnet.) Based on these two definitions, Tyler wants his life streamlined and sorted. As polarized sunglasses sort between the directions of light waves and a magnet has a north and a south end, Tyler wants himself to be clear and organized so that his decisions can be well made.

In the pre-chorus, Tyler lists a few specific ways he’d like to improve his life: “I wanted to be a better brother, better son / Wanted to be a better adversary to the evil I have done.” He wishes he could have been better for his family and would have liked to have had the good in his life outweigh the evil. He wants desperately to be a good person.

The Song I have chosen...

I have chosen to make a Music Video for the song 'Polarize' By Twenty One Pilots.

I have chose to use this song:
  •  as I feel I am able to portray the message of the song through visual images in imaginative and creative ways.
  • I also Like the instrumentation of the song as its not too crowded and it has a clear beat on the drums so I can follow this beat with my transitions and shots easily.
  • I also like how it has a Breakdown too as it will allow me to put a twist in the video and will allow me to change the mood of the video for that section.

Here is the song:
